Tying a Snell Knot

A Snell knot is a kind of hitch knot that is used in angling. It is used to attach a fishing line to the shank of the fishing hook rather than the eye. The line passes through the eye but is mainly fastened to the shaft. A snell knot provides an even, straight-line pull to the fish.

Supplies: Fishing line and a hook.

Step 1: Feed the line through the eye of the hook with the short end parallel to the shaft of the hook.

Step 2: Hold the line against the shaft of the hook and with your thumb and finger.

Step 3: Next, take the other end of the line and wrap it around the line and the shaft tightly. Wrap it about seven or eight times.

Step 4: Lastly, send the line through the eye of the hook the opposite way. Pull the line tightly and push your wrap tightly together. Cut off the tail line.
